Filler Art -- #8

R.I.P. Graphics Tablet

After serving me well since I first started my blog, The Merry Lurker's Workshop, my tablet has gone where the good tablets go. Needless to say, in the meantime, the all-digital MOROCHEY comics will be on yet another rest. However, I'm going to post some backstory/world-building sketches from my notebook as filler art until the comic can come back.

This one is a drawing of the Raven Clan crest, with a few words about their history.

MOROCHEY -- #61

Self Control

Rico is obsessed with self control. After seeing his brother succumb to madness early on, he resolved to master himself so that he wouldn't suffer the same fate. He also sees his master Sterling's failure as a failing of self control. By Rico's logic, if Sterling had not been so eager to train his super warriors he would have foreseen the trouble before it was too late; or at least not let his attachment to the project get in the way of starting over.

This scene has been kicking around in my head for a while. Originally Sterling was going to take him by surprise, and appear while he was with a companion. That got changed because a) Rico isn't the type to be taken by surprise, and b) I didn't want to introduce that character, and deal with that relationship, in a place where it would get in the way of an already thickly layered story.

Mostly, I want this final chapter to wrap up what we've already seen in this Season, and tie it together. The mysteries implied in the middle of Season 2 will be enough to set up for Season 3. I tried the cliffhanger thing at the end of the last season, and look back on it as something that doesn't really flow as well as I thought it would.

#ProductionNote The time on the clock in Rico's apartment is actually the time it was when I looked at MY clock while drawing the scene. I needed a time that was late at night, but not so random it didn't make sense.

I Hope I'm Wrong, but I'm Almost Sure I'm Right

Who hasn't had one of those moments? Well..  not SPECIFICALLY a moment of suspecting that your sister is part of a revival of a secret program to forge superwarriors...  but a moment where you really hope you're NOT right about something you suspect. The puzzle pieces are falling into place for Skye. Whether Rikana notices this or not will remain to be seen.

#CharacterNote "Rika" is Skye's childhood name for Rikana

#ProductionNote I actually had a little trouble laying out the speech panels so that they'd flow properly, and be read in the proper direction. The finished version has been modified from the original. You can see the original version of this page as a Vote Incentive for MOROCHEY on TopWebcomics.com.
