Tough Customer or Tough Love?Or maybe a little bit of both. Rikana has a lot of explaining to do, so she's cutting to the chase pretty quickly. Maybe a little too quickly for her little sister.Incidentally, I worried as I planned this sequence back in the summer that the story was going too fast for the reader.The original mental "draft" of the conversation between Eva and Skye was going to be a brief preparation for meeting Rikana. That would have been followed by this meeting, which would have been stretched out with a lot of flashbacks as Skye remembered things she'd been told before about the history of Sky Watch, connections to Anastasia, politics with the Aurora Clan, and a a reiteration of a bunch of other little connections as Skye put them together. Thinking over the sequence, I realized it was going to consist of a lot of "I remember when"s and "Didn't they say before"s that would have been very expositiony, distracting, and oversped. Before committing a massive sin against Show-Don't-Tell, I rearranged things a little to give everyone a chance to figure it out before Skye did. The working title for this chapter is "Puzzle Pieces", because it's when everything foreshadowed from the beginning of the chapter comes together. It's the second to last chapter in this season.
